hilde vale
Vale works as a lawyer specializing in real property law and has previously been a partner in several law firms in Oslo since 1992. She currently has her own legal practice in Oslo. Vale was born and raised on a farm in historic Gvarv, Telemark. She is interested in agriculture and history in general, particularly legal history and court systems from the Viking Age onwards. The Nordic principle of separation of powers is close to her heart!
In her professional career, Vale has previously handled many land consolidation cases and property law cases, specializing in interpreting old land division documents in a legal context. Today, Vale primarily works as an attorney for landowners across the country when the state expropriates property for the development of roads, railways, power lines, and other public projects.
Vale is one of Norway's most experienced expropriation lawyers with 30 years of experience in a large number of property law disputes for private landowners, especially in expropriation law with out-of-court property acquisitions and judicial appraisals (residential, commercial, and agricultural).
As a lawyer, Vale also has extensive experience in real property law in general. This includes disputes over easements/rights and property boundaries, land consolidation cases (including those related to transportation infrastructure), inheritance cases, ground lease issues, planning and building law, as well as cases for housing cooperatives and condominiums. Vale has litigated these areas of law in all court instances.
In the last 10-15 years, Vale has primarily focused on expropriation cases. She has handled numerous appraisals and out-of-court acquisitions related to the new E18 and double railway tracks through Vestfold-Telemark and Østfold, as well as the E16 through Buskerud and Oppland. Additionally, she has dealt with expropriation cases connected to national highway developments in Western Norway, Trøndelag, and Northern Norway.
Vale takes on cases for private landowners subject to expropriation by public authorities (Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Bane Nor, Nye Veier, county municipalities, and municipalities). She does not take on assignments for public authorities as an expropriator against private individuals.
Vale has had numerous litigation assignments in district courts, courts of appeal, and the Supreme Court, mainly in the field of expropriation law.
